CIFT Hosts Discussion with Ohio Advanced Energy
Loan and Grant Stakeholders

Tasked with designing and managing an $84 million Advanced Energy loan and grant program, the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority (OAQDA) chose CIFT as one of four sites in the state to capture input from program stakeholders. The Advanced Energy program, as part of the recently passed Bipartisan Economic Stimulus Package, House Bill 554, is targeted to further the growth of the Advanced Energy industry within Ohio.
Over forty individuals – company representatives, university researchers and economic development professionals – participated in the Friday, September 26th, meeting at CIFT. Like those held at three other Edison Technology Centers in the state, the ninety-minute meeting was facilitated by representatives from the OAQDA and USA Energy Advisors, a group chosen by OAQDA to assist with the design and roll-out of the stimulus program.
The presenters emphasized that this new and significant assistance program will help growing companies in the Advanced Energy industry in Ohio. Following an overview of the Advanced Energy program’s purpose and scope, Dr. Ed Saltzberg, a principal of USA Energy Advisors, urged participants to provide comments and criticism that will help shape the new initiative. Topics included program design, component structure and award criteria. Attendees from such highly successful Northwest Ohio advanced energy firms as Xunlight Corporation, Red Lion Bio Energy, Imaging Systems Technology, The Anderson’s and Calyxo USA were vocal and persistent as they contributed suggestions and observations based on their many collective years of successful entrepreneurial experiences.
Participants and presenters all complimented CIFT’s role in organizing and supporting this essential regional meeting. Through cooperative efforts with the Regional Growth Partnership and the University of Toledo Incubation Center, CIFT was able to rally a rapid email and telephone campaign to contact a wide range of advanced energy companies and researchers to assure that Northwest Ohio input was clearly presented and heard by the OAQDA. Representatives from the OAQDA intend to have the program finalized and funds available early in 2009.
